Job Opportunity

This post is surrounding a job opportunity that sounds like it might be very interesting and good experience. My university often send out emails containing relevant job opportunities within the area of each courses subject, for example our photography course gets sent out many different photography job opportunities. The job links that they send out are often very different, some are not relevant to certain people and some are. I was looking at one of the emails a few weeks ago and noticed an opportunity that sounded really interesting, I opened the job link and read the cover text to see what the job entailed. Below is the information from that email.

Zeven Media have been in touch and are looking for Photobooth Attendants to accompany their photobooths at high profile corporate and fashion events. I know it’s not strictly enriching for our undergraduate’s studies but with summer approaching there might be some of your students looking for some paid work with the opportunity to mingle. Full info is below.

Thanks, Rachael

Photobooth Attendants
Zeven Media
We are currently searching for confident and sociable people to join our busy team. The job involves delivering and setting up the booth — so we’re looking for someone who is at least 21 years old, has a driving license, and doesn’t mind the odd bit of heavy lifting. We need friendly, approachable people who can strike-up a conversation and socialise with guests. An interest in fashion, photography and/or the nightlife scene would be an advantage, and you will be expected to travel and work late.

In return we offer competitive pay, the chance to earn extra money when things get busy, and a genuinely fun and enjoyable job.

If you think you fit the bill then please email a CV (preferably with a photo) to jobs@zeven.co.uk

Main office is based in Old Trafford, but we hold events all around England mainly London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, so could involve travel.

The job ad is on the My Advantage site so students can also view it their (by logging in with the usual username/password):

The job sounded some what interesting to me and with an interest in both fashion and photography I decided to apply. Having worked for a high fashion retail brand AllSaints for over 5 years, I thought that this might give me an advantage through the selection process. I then decided to adapt my CV to fit the criteria for this specific job, something that I had learnt to do during my first professional frameworks module at university. We were told that in order to be more successful when applying for jobs, it was necessary to adapt your standard CV to suit the company/ job role that you are applying for. This really came into its own when I decided to apply for this job because it enabled me to direct my past experiences to this specific company and I was able to change each element of my CV to make it more suitable for when the company read it. The main part of my CV that I changed was the initial statement at the top of my CV,  a brief overview of myself and my strengths as well as my past experience in photography. I changed this to suit. Below is a copy of the CV that I sent to the company, the very day that I read the job email.

Skills

employment

September 2009 to April 2014- Stylist & Sales Assistant at AllSaints Spinningfields & AllSaints Trafford Centre
Having worked for this high fashion brand for over 5 years, I have learnt a number of transferable skills as well as gaining confidence in myself. Working in this fast paced environment has enabled me to develop my customer service and time management skills to a high standard. Having to resolve customer issues has enabled me not only to be able to talk to customers but also to problem solve in order to gain complete customer satisfaction. I have become a well-trusted employee and work well within a close-knit team. Having maintained this job for a long period of time helps to shows my reliability and dedication for whatever I do.

January 2009 to September 2010- Risley Forge, Risley
This position was much more manual and hard work than other roles I have had. The forge produced metal products of many descriptions and this proved to be a totally different experience to what I was used too. This job meant I had to be resilient and determined as the work was very manually orientated.

June 2009 to September 2010- Waiter & Bar Tender at Duck Egg Bluu, Culcheth
As this restaurant was relatively expensive, the standard of customer service had to be high. This position therefore meant I had to develop my customer interaction so that the customers had a great experience. This therefore gave me great communication and customer service skills that could be transferred to many different job roles.

January 2009 to June 2009- Waiter & Kitchen Assistant at Sopranos Italian Restaurant, Culcheth
As I had to work as a waiter and kitchen assistant, I gained vast knowledge about the whole of the hospitality sector, from producing the product to serving the finished article. Working in the kitchen enabled me to gain hands on experience in health and safety, time management and coping with extreme stress and pressure.

I believed that my CV possessed enough relevant past experiences that I would be suitable for the job. When I sent my cv together with a short cover letter to the company I received an interview within a couple of days. I went to the interview and got to know about the business some more, it seemed like a great opportunity.

Only a few days after that I got a phone call offering me the job and asking me to come in to discuss a contract. I then went to the head office and met with the two owners and discussed about the job role and training. During my conversations with the owners I was told that the business had recently been on the TV programme The Dragons Den where they were successful in receiving investment from three of the Dragons! This sounded very promising and it sounds like the business is expanding at a massive rate therefore it is a great time to get into the business. During the training day I got to know about the equipment and how to set up the devices, it was a great environment and I was very worthwhile. This whole experience happened within just over a week and I was surprised to see that securing a job could be so quick. I have been asked to go down to an event at Harvey Nichols in Birmingham where I will learnt more about the job role and get to grip with the equipment. This job is full time hours and I am looking forward to see where the job takes me! I am glad that the university sent out many emails and that some of them may hold great opportunities.
